CHATHAM, Ill. (WAND) - Todd Blakeman resigned as Glenwood's basketball coach in 2021.
But after a few years away from the game, he decided to return to the Titans. He came back recharged and so did the program.
In just Blakeman's second season back, the Titans have secured a spot in the State Semifinals.
A late game-winner Monday night lifted Glenwood past Triad in the Supersectional Championship.
After the game, Blakeman could not help but reflect on the last time the Titans made it to the Elite Eight in 2013.
"You kind of take it all in,” Blakeman said. “I’ll probably never stand in front of this again. I looked around and told the kids, ‘Take this in. This is not something you do every day. When we did it back in 2013, you thought you could do it but it’s special. Now you’re a little older, a little wiser. That group right there is a tough group.”
The Titans will face DePaul College Prep in the 3A State Semifinal at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the State Farm Center.
