DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Massive Hurricane Melissa continues to weaken at this hour, approaching the eastern half of Cuba. However, it will remain a major hurricane until it enters the southwest Atlantic.
Closer to home, rain and drizzle will linger through the night and at least the first part of Wednesday. It's a welcome rain given the recent drought. However, it comes with gusty winds of 25-35 mph. This is a far cry from what Melissa is producing, but caution is still advised when traveling.
Meanwhile, in the West, mild fall weather is taking shape. Once Melissa exits into the north Atlantic this weekend, the door for additional warmth here will open up. The general west-to-east flow of air across the country will resume. We also have to factor in that a parcel of air warms roughly 5.4 degrees per one thousand feet as it descends off the Rockies. So, our current bout of chilly weather will give way to late fall warmth, at least for a few days. We may even make it back into the 70s!
Stay tuned, stay weather-aware and enjoy.
