DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Wet weather, especially when fog is tossed into the mix, causes headaches for travelers. Enter tonight. Another round of rain, albeit fairly light to moderate, will take a small bite out of the current drought.

Actually, what is more important for the setup for the next storm is what happens in the wake of tonight's rain.

Gusty winds help usher in a big temperature swing, even before we give thanks this Thursday. The depth of this cold air, combined with a southern storm track and Gulf moisture, will bring accumulating snow back into the picture at week's end. There are a lot of questions to be asked, including what is the exact storm track? I mean, the storm is near the Alaskan Aleutians, over 3,000 miles away. A lot can happen between now and its arrival. How much relatively mild air from the Gulf gets involved? How far north does milder air travel? Is it all snow, or a mix? Intensity of precipitation? Warm ground? Etc., etc.

The answers are not all in at this hour, but the likelihood of messy accumulating snow is rather high. So, if you are traveling for the post-holiday this weekend, it's best to stay up-to-date on the latest information and not rely on Facebook/TikTok/Instagram fake weather sites. The best way to know they are fake is if they don't advertise they are a degree meteorologist.

Stay safe, and stay weather aware. Happy Thanksgiving!
