SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Thousands of people lost power and trees were knocked down after severe weather moved through central Illinois on Friday afternoon.Â
According to PowerOutage.us as of 5 p.m. Friday.
- Sangamon Co. - 1,400
- Macon Co. - 3,200
- Christian Co. - 2,400
- Shelby Co. - 900
- Macoupin Co. - 3,400
- Vermilion Co. - 2,100
Outages were also reported in several other counties including Logan, Moultrie, Effingham, Fayette, Coles, and Champaign counties.Â
Several utility companies were working to get power restored, but some areas needed to wait until storms moved away from the area.
In Decatur, power outages also knocked out traffic lights in several areas. Drivers should treat an intersection without a functioning traffic light as a four-way stop.Â
Severe weather has also knocked down trees and damaged some homes and buildings.
