CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) —  The League of Women's Voters in Champaign County held an educational and informational session ahead of the election.

The session discussed two referendums that voters in Champaign County will be asked to vote on during the upcoming general election. The first question poses a sales tax increase by a one-quarter percent to be used for public safety expenses. The second is the proposal to eliminate the elected county auditor.

"I think this is an historic election, but I want to make sure that the the local issues don't kind of get swept up in the national issues" says Stephanie Fortado, Finance Chair for the County Board. "Although the national is very important, I think the local is important too. And the forum today allows people to go to the ballot box feeling confident when they cast their ballot."

The informational session helped voters know and understand these two questions on the ballot, and helped educate those who had questions.
