SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach (HSMO) and Tri-County (IL) Chapter of The Links, Inc. will hold a celebration marking the launch of the Clean Birth Kit initiative to improve survival rates for mothers and babies in low-resource areas globally.

The event will occur at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach in Springfield.

Each kit contains items essential to delivering a baby, including directions for each item provided in either Swahili or Spanish, depending on the language spoken in the distribution area.

Tri-County Chapter of The Links, Inc. President Pat Carpenter said it is an "honor to contribute to such a meaningful cause."

“This initiative has allowed us to put into action the founding principles of The Links, Inc. With every kit we complete, we are reminded that we may be helping to save the lives of a mother and her baby," Carpenter said in a statement.

More than 1,000 kits have been assembled since the Clean Birth Kit initiative began in fall 2024.
