happy st patricks day (GG)

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Are you feeling lucky yet? St. Patrick's Day is coming up this weekend. Decatur will celebrate the holiday once again by hosting a parade.

This year's guests will feature two grand marshals to celebrate.

"Father Chris from St. Patrick's School and Church, he's the pride of St. Patrick's, so we're just very happy he's going to be in it."

Parade Chairperson Jim Wrigley told WAND News St. Patrick's School will be a part of the parade along with the Prairie Land Punishers Roller Derby team, superheroes, community members running for political office, and first responders.

"You just keep adding them up," he said.

Wrigley said the parade is a family-friendly event and one local kids will enjoy attending. He also encouraged people to check out the other local restaurants downtown.

"It's going to be a really good time."

The parade steps off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16. It will travel along Franklin, then take a left onto East North Street, before traveling south on Main.

There will be an after-party at Hall 520, but Wrigely said there will be parking changes for the event due to a wrestling tournament taking place at the Civic Center. The City of Decatur has agreed to allow parking at the City Parking Garage across from the Avon Theater on Saturday. A free trolley will run every 15 minutes from the garage to Hall 520 from 11 am to 3 pm.

Wrigley said he could not have made the parade possible without the support of the community and the City of Decatur.
