(WAND) — Grab your flannel and pumpkin spice coffee if you must because it is officially fall. WAND News has compiled a list of some fall favorites you won't want to miss in central Illinois.
First up, take a hike. Allerton Park and Retreat have turned hiking into a friendly competition with HIKE ALLerton. Complete all nine trails by the end of the year and get a free special edition HIKE ALLerton T-shirt. For proof, take a photo and get it to Sarah at their Visitor Center between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays.
You may want to see wildlife up close in your car. Head out to Aikman Wildlife Adventure for their Howl-O-Ween at Wildlife Adventure event on October 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The park is located in Arcola.
Speaking of wildlife, Scovill Zoo hosts Boo at the Zoo annually. It is one of the Zoo's most significant events, with treat stations set around the zoo and train and carousel rides. They also offer a sensory-friendly time to accommodate all families. Tickets will go on sale on September 27.
No fall is complete without a pumpkin. Did you know Illinois farmers grow the most pumpkins in the country? WAND News has compiled a list of local patches in our area, which you can find by clicking here.
And what other food represents fall? The apple, of course. One can snag an apple cider doughnut in multiple places, and central Illinois has a few—Curtis Orchard & Pumpkin Patch in Champaign and Okaw Valley Orchard in Sullivan.
And we can't forget that as fall begins, the holidays are soon to follow. Head on out to Hardy's Reindeer Ranch in Rantoul to pet Santa's helpers and navigate a corn maze this fall.
