CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — "Over the almost 17 years of being a parent, I rarely buy new clothes for them..." shared Mandy Alman, a mom of four.
Alman, along with hundreds, spent her Monday morning shopping down the aisles of the One Week Boutique.
The unique pop-up shop has been helping local families for over twenty years, find children's clothing and baby items at a discounted price.Â
"Raising kids is expensive!" said One Week Boutique owner Kristi Carlson. "This is a full circle event."
One Week Boutique was started with the hope to give families the opportunity to earn some extra money by reselling items that their children have outgrown. The community consignment shop takes place twice a year, inviting parents and families to shop from other local families.
"I admit that if they were in a store for regular price, I probably wouldn't buy them. But I'm like, here it's a dollar or it's $2!" Alman added, as she filled her shopping bag with toys and clothing for her kids.
Consigners in the community have the chance to pass down items they no longer need as their children age, such as bottles, strollers, cribs and shoes.
One volunteer and consigner, Sandra Park-Lee, shared, "It's so affordable! Especially, in this economy right now."
After the shop concludes, any unsold items that aren’t claimed by the consignor are donated to Crisis Nursery or Salt & Light Ministries. For more information on how to get involved or stay up to date with pop-up shops, click here.
