DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Macon County Continuum of Care has launched a community-wide 100-day challenge focused on preventing homelessness.Â
This is part of a statewide effort supported by the Illinois Department of Human Services in partnership with the Supportive Housing Providers Association and RE!NSTITUTE.Â
The goal is that within 100 days the community will work to prevent 60 households from becoming homeless. A little over half of those households are families with children.Â
Local leaders met on March 5 and 6 to start coordinating strategies. Agencies will work together to intervene earlier when people are facing eviction or housing crises.Â
Landlords and community partners are asked to participate by communicating early when people are struggling.Â
