DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A Decatur man is facing multiple charges after police say he installed a hidden camera in a women's restroom at a local restaurant.Â
According to a sworn statement, police were called to the restaurant on Aug. 2 after employees found a device resembling a power bank under the restroom sink and another device taped behind a mirror.
Police later determined the second device was a hidden camera, according to the sworn. Investigators said the camera’s memory card contained 84 videos.
Police said one of the videos showed a man installing the camera, and detectives identified him as restaurant employee William J. Wilson.
The sworn statement said a female employee told investigators Wilson had repeatedly contacted her outside of work hours and waited outside the restroom at work. She said Wilson knew she changed for her shift in that restroom.
Police arrested Wilson on Aug. 11. During a search of his home, detectives said they found additional hidden-camera devices and a laptop computer.
Police said a forensic review of the laptop found images from previous camera placements in the same restroom.
The sworn statement said detectives also found approximately 611 images of suspected child sexual abuse material on the computer.
Wilson is charged with five counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, stalking and unauthorized video recording.Â
Court records show that he was denied pretrial release and will return to court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 2.Â
