(WAND) - Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a passenger vehicle and a Pleasant Hill School District bus in rural Pike County.

Troopers responded around 7:41 a.m. Thursday to U.S. 54 west of 165th Avenue.

Police said the school bus was slowing to pick up students with its warning lights activated when a passenger vehicle rear-ended it. Both vehicles caught fire following the crash.

The juvenile driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead. The school bus had 11 people onboard: the adult driver and 10 students.

No serious injuries were reported among the bus occupants. All students have been reunited with their guardians.

U.S. 54 between 165th Street and 265th Street remains closed as troopers investigate. Drivers are asked to use an alternate route.

The crash remains under investigation.
