Macon County Animal Control and Care Center to host 20th anniversary event

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Macon County Animal Control and Care Center in Decatur needs your help in celebrating a big milestone.

The shelter will celebrate its 20th anniversary at noon Saturday at its location on East Parkway Drive.

There will be food trucks, tours, adoption giveaways and more.

Shirley Stanley with the shelter said the facility has been a major upgrade to the organization and the community.

"Now it is reputed to be one of the best in the US, and there are people who come who are either going to be redoing a shelter or starting from scratch and look to see what we have because now, we're an exemplary prototype. Whereas before we were very shameful, it was just absolutely like a third-world facility," Stanley said.
