CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — A Champaign park unveiled a brand new basketball court for the community to enjoy Saturday morning.
The Champaign Park District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new court in Johnston Park. The ceremony coincided with Kids to Parks Day, a national day honoring outdoor play.
The district said community members strongly advocated for the construction of the new court.
"The new basketball courts at Johnston Park are a tribute to community members and the park district working together to promote the importance of parks and amenities in our neighborhoods," said Champaign Park District Executive Director Sarah Sandquist.
Johnston Park is located at 701 Goldenview Drive. Along with the new basketball court, the park features a playground, an almost half-mile long learning trail, soccer goals and several acres of green space.
