DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Bust out your dancing shoes! The Night to Shine prom night is returning to Decatur this February.
This special celebration, designed to honor individuals with developmental disabilities, will take place on Friday, February 13, at GT Church in Decatur. The event will run from approximately 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Guests can expect an evening filled with music, dancing, and meaningful connection in a safe, welcoming, and festive environment.
Night to Shine is hosted locally by First Christian Church and GT Church and is part of a global movement aimed at celebrating the dignity, worth, and joy of people with developmental disabilities.
Each honored guest attends with a chaperone and is treated to a red-carpet experience that emphasizes inclusion and community.
Organizers say community involvement is key to making the event possible. They are currently seeking event sponsors, monetary donations, and volunteers to help support all aspects of the evening.
Volunteers are needed for roles such as event setup, guest support, and hospitality, while financial and in-kind donations help cover expenses and ensure every guest enjoys a memorable experience.
“Night to Shine is only possible because of the generosity of our community,” said Pastor Nic Mayberry of First Christian Church. “Whether through giving time, resources, or financial support, every contribution helps create a night where our honored guests feel celebrated and valued.”
Charity Miller of GT Church added that the event has become a meaningful tradition for Decatur. “This night is an amazing evening for our community and for those that attend each year. Each donor and volunteer has the opportunity to make a positive impact.”
Amy Bliefnick, President and CEO of Macon Resources, Inc., also highlighted the event’s impact. “We love that Night to Shine brings love, smiles, and joy to the persons we serve. It is truly an incredible community event because of the more than 400 volunteers and supporters, along with the churches that do so much to organize it.”
Those interested in sponsoring, donating, or volunteering for Night to Shine are encouraged to reach out to event organizers for more information and registration details.
