SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will host the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 26.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Public Health, located at 2833 South Grand Avenue in Springfield. It offers a chance for the free and anonymous disposal of unused medications to help prevent addiction.
According to the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office, since the event's inception, 9,285 tons of medication have been removed from circulation.
Items not accepted include syringes, sharps, illicit drugs, and liquid products must remain sealed.
