SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Springfield's Lincoln Park is about to receive a facelift.Â
The Springfield Park District announced Tuesday that the park will undergo a major redevelopment project thanks to a $600,000 grant award from the state of Illinois.Â
Among the key features of the redevelopment will be an inclusive playground for children of all abilities, two new wooden park shelters, energy-efficient lighting, and a nature-inspired multi-court play area featuring hopscotch, four square and a half basketball court.
A passive recreation area will also be added, featuring bench swings, butterfly and pollinator gardens, a story walk and educational signage.Â
Construction zone fencing will be installed Aug. 11, and the area will be closed to the public. Playground construction will officially begin Aug. 18.Â
