URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Two people were arrested Friday night after a large fight involving dozens of individuals led to reports of gunfire in Urbana.

According to the Urbana Police Department, officers responded to the 2000 block of South Philo Road around 10:12 p.m. after receiving reports of a large disturbance involving approximately 50 to 60 people, as well as reports that shots had been fired.

After further investigation Urbana PD determined that the incident started as an  an argument between adults before escalating to several physical altercations. During the disturbance, a firearm was discharged several times into the air, police said.

Officers arrested 42-year-old Anthony Teat of Urbana on charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Domestic Battery.

Police also arrested 33-year-old Jessica Morris of Urbana on charges of Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, Aggravated Battery in a Public Place, and Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer.

Officers recovered a Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun and six spent shell casings at the scene. Authorities said no people or property were struck by the gunfire.

More than 30 law enforcement officers from surrounding agencies responded to assist with the incident.

Teat and Morris were transported to the Champaign County Jail, where they are being held pending further court proceedings.
