SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – The Illinois Department of Transportation is launching a $5.3 million improvement project on Fifth Street in Springfield, from Spruce Street to Ash Street, starting April 16.
The project includes resurfacing, replacing pavement, upgrading sidewalks, and replacing traffic signals at Ash and Laurel Streets.
Traffic will be limited to one lane, with restricted access to certain intersections and business driveways. Motorists should expect delays and consider using alternate routes, while staying alert for changed conditions, speed limits, and construction workers.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-December.
