DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - Part of the roof was ripped off an elementary school in Danville Thursday during severe weather.Â
A video posted by Danville Alderman Tom Hightower showed part of the metal roof on the ground at Mark Denman Elementary School. The school is located on Colfax Drive. There were no reports of injuries. Â
Neighbors on Colfax Drive woke up to large portions of the roof in their front and backyards, and on top of their homes.Â
"I was in my basement and it was fine and then it was extremely loud," said Marcia Miller, who lives across the street from the house. "We thought we were getting hit by a tornado ... it was freaky. And then my neighbor texted me and said the metal roof is all over your backyard."Â
The house next to Miller's was hit by a piece of the roof, and it wrapped around a side of the home. The largest piece of the roof ended up in the front yard and pulled the power line down.Â
A woman named Charlotte lives at the house a few doors down. She was shocked to hear the sound of the damage happening overnight.Â
"We heard this big rumble and then BOOM!" Charlotte said. "The house shook and we were trying to figure out what was going on. When the weather calmed down, we went out and realized the roof had come down."Â
It's unclear if there is any damage inside the school, but there is a visible hole through the ceiling of the building.Â
The Vermilion County EMA Director told WAND News that some houses and garages were also damaged in Danville. There was also lots of tree damage.Â
