TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — Two children trapped 15 feet deep in a well were saved by the Assistant Chief of the Taylorville Fire Department and another crew member. TFD said in a news release that the children were trapped in water and unable to reach the surface.
The Assistant Chief and a shift personnel member found the children around 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, November 16. They said the children were trapped in a well that was 16-18 inches across and about 30 feet deep. Neither child could reach the bottom, and both a teenager and a toddler were trapped.
Firefighters immediately took action to rescue both children from the well with a pre-made rigging system. They were both removed safely and transported to a local hospital.
One member of the TFD had minor injuries.
EMS assisted with transport. Assistant Chief Cody Rodgers said, "This was a successful rescue operation, with all personnel demonstrating professionalism and readiness in handling the emergency.
