Week of the Young Child

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher held a proclamation ceremony on Thursday at Memorial Child Care to emphasize early childhood development and the support for young children and families.

The event was part of a collaboration with Birth to Five Illinois: Region 51, Memorial Health, and the City of Springfield, celebrating "Week of the Young Child," which takes place from April 5 to 11.

“We appreciated the opportunity to welcome Mayor Buscher to our Memorial Child Care facility,” said Rebecca Reynolds, director of Memorial Child Care. “We love being a part of Springfield’s early childhood community, and the city’s commitment to investing in its youngest residents and elevating the importance of early childhood education and care in the community is commendable.”

Regional Council manager Ashley Earles with Birth to Five Illinois: Region 51, says the activities planned for Week of the Young Child – Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday and Family Friday – helped serve as a reminder that the early years are learning years.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Memorial Health, Memorial Child Care and the City of Springfield to bring awareness and celebration to the foundational years of life,” she said. Week of the Young Child is an annual initiative of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
