SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — Shelbyville resident Forest "Frosty" Herron celebrated his 100th birthday surrounded by family on Saturday.Â
Frosty served in the Merchant Marines, as well as the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the school board for 20 years, and chief deputy sheriff for Shelby County for 20 years.
His eldest son, Kevin Herron, said his father left a legacy.
"Dad is two years older than penicillin. When dad was born, Calvin Coolidge was the president. Gas was like $0.20 a gallon, and it's just amazing. But I think the thing that amazes me more than anything is his legacy that he's left by his beliefs," he said.
That legacy can be summarized by Frosty himself: "You gotta love everybody."
