CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — A 17-year-old from Champaign was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after a shooting Wednesday morning.
Champaign Police were dispatched to the area of Fourth Street and Nelson Court at 11:51 a.m., after a report of gunfire in the area.
Multiple officers searched the neighborhood and found evidence of gunfire in the 300 block of Nelson Court, including shell casings.
According to police, officers learned a 17-year-old boy from Champaign fled on foot into a nearby home, also in the 300 block of Nelson Court.
Champaign Police served a search warrant at the residence, and the teen was arrested on initial charges of aggravated unlawful use of weapons.
He remains in custody at the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center.
Police say even though an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing.
Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance.
