DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — An investigation is underway after a 19-year-old was shot and killed in Decatur Thursday.
Decatur Police were called to a home in the 1200 block of N. Pine St. just after midnight Thursday for a welfare check.
Officers found 19-year-old Amarion Gray with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Decatur Memorial Hospital by ambulance but did not survive.
A 17-year-old boy was also taken to the hospital by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The 17-year-old is still receiving medical care for non-life-threatening injuries.
The 19-year-old and 17-year-old are associates and were with each other before being shot, police said.
A neighborhood canvas was conducted to find witnesses and evidence while detectives with the Decatur Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division processed the crime scene.
Detectives found multiple shell casings in the 1200 block of N. Pine Street. The investigation is ongoing.
