DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - This year's Coats for Kids Drive brought in 2,569 coats for local kids.
For 32 years Dove, Inc. and WAND News have teamed up to collect coats for kids in the winter. Dove, Inc. said this year there was a great need for coats.
"A lot of people are struggling and some of our numbers show that," explained Blakey. "The number of people going through the clothing room is up, so we know there is a great need."
All of the coats donated were taken to the area clothing rooms to be cleaned and distributed to clothing rooms. This year 2,569 coats were donated, which is 200 more than last year.
"With everything going on and the folks struggling it is such a blessing to have those extra 200 coats," said Blakey.
Dove, Inc. clothing room is located at Central Christian Church on W. Williams St. It is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The clothing room is also taking donations.
