Fire in the 300 block of North Oak St. in Effingham

EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) - Two people were displaced after a fire in an Effingham apartment building. 

The Effingham Fire Department was called to a building in the 300 block of North Oak St. around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for a fire. 

A neighbor across the street reported it. 

Smoke and fire was coming from the back of the building. The building holds six apartments. 

Everyone had gotten out safely. 

EFD said the fire started on the first-floor back porch of apartment 308 and was contained to just that apartment and the area around it.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, and damage is estimated at $40,000.
