DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Two people were displaced after their Decatur home caught fire Saturday morning.Â
Two Decatur Police Officers called the fire in after they saw it while out on patrol in the 300 block of N. Illinois.Â
The Decatur Fire Department arrived around 8:15 a.m. and found smoke coming from the boarded-up portion of the duplex.Â
Firefighters discovered it was a basement fire that had extended into the walls and attic.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire within about 15 minutes.Â
No one was home at the time of the fire, but DFD said two people did live in the duplex and had to be relocated with the help of the American Red Cross.
Firefighters said there was extensive damage to the property.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.Â
