NEOGA, Ill. (WAND) — Work is set to begin on the I-57 Neoga interchange Monday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) said the $54.6 million bridge reconstruction project will reconstruct the southbound bridge in 2026 and the northbound bridge in 2027.

IDOT said a barrier wall will be put up on the northbound bridge to separate the driving and passing lanes. When completed, crossovers will be used to divert southbound traffic to the northbound passing lane while northbound traffic uses the northbound driving lane.

Once the crossovers are in use, the southbound off- and on-ramps will be closed at the Neoga interchange. IDOT said a detour will be posted using U.S. 45 and the I-57 Effingham interchange.

IDOT is urging drivers to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, follow posted speed limits, stay off mobile devices and pay attention to workers and equipment.
