MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - A former Maroa Middle School teacher pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual abuse of a minor.

In June 2024, police arrested Zoe Duncan Savage for allegedly engaging in a sex act with a 16-year-old in April of 2023.

During a hearing Thursday, Macon County State's Attorney Diane Couri provided the prosecution's evidence to Macon County Judge Lindsey Shelton. Couri told the court in April 2023 that the victim had conversations with Duncan Savage over Snapchat.

"During the course of their communication, this defendant (Savage) had inappropriate conversations with him and asked him for pictures, and things of that nature. She also invited him over to her residence," Couri told the court.

Couri explained that if the case were to go to trial, the victim would testify that on April 7, 2023, he went over to Duncan Savage's home and she performed a sex act on him.

Couri also told the court that Snapchat communications between the victim and Duncan Savage revealed about 300 messages between the two.

"The victim knew this defendant, because she was his seventh- and eighth-grade teacher," Couri told the court. "He was familiar with her."

Duncan Savage will be sentenced in October.

This is an open plea. There is a cap of 5 years on the sentence, and it is probation eligible.
