CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign was one of 30 schools that received a letter from the Department of War on Wednesday.
The department stated it is conducting research security audits at the universities to protect taxpayer-funded research investments.
A statement from the U of I said the university is taking the responsibility to safeguard research seriously and will work with the Department of War.
The universities must report their findings no later than the end of August to keep eligibility for future federal research funding.
