Generic ambulance

ARGENTA, Ill. (WAND) - Seven people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving a semi and four other vehicles on Interstate 72 in Argenta. 

At 12:07 a.m., the Argenta-Oreana Fire Department said it was called to I-72 at mile marker 149 for a three-vehicle accident involving a semi. 

While they were headed to the scene, they learned another vehicle had become involved in the same crash. 

Crews found a semi blocking all westbound lanes, one vehicle in the median, one vehicle in the north ditch, and another vehicle that was heavily damaged near the semi. 

The occupants of the heavily damaged vehicle had to be extricated. Two people were pulled out. 

In total, seven patients were taken to area hospital by ambulance. 

Westbound traffic lanes were shut down and detoured to milepost 150. 

All lanes have since reopened.
