DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - An 82-year-old passenger died after a two-vehicle crash in Decatur Thursday.

Decatur police said it was called to the intersection of North 24th and East Eldorado Streets before 2:30 p.m. for a two-vehicle crash.

Following an early investigation, a sedan was traveling east on Eldorado with a green light at N. 24th, while an SUV going west on Eldorado had turned south onto 24th with just a green light. The investigation found the SUV driver failed to yield when turning left and smacked into the sedan.

The 82-year-old SUV driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while its elderly passenger was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Both the driver of the sedan and its 6-year-old passenger were treated for minor injuries.

The coroner later confirmed the 82-year-old passenger died at the hospital Thursday night.

According to police, there was no sign that either driver was under the influence.

DPD added that its Fatal Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
