ARGENTA, Ill. (WAND) – The village of Argenta is gearing up to host its 9th Annual IceFest on Saturday, February 8 in downtown Argenta.
Aaric Kendall, Argenta native and Olympic Gold Medalist Ice Carver, finishes an ice carving ahead of Saturday's event.Â
The family-friendly event has become a cherished winter tradition, attracting visitors from across central Illinois.
The festival will feature live ice carving demonstrations at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM, showcasing the talents of Argenta native and Olympic Gold Medalist Ice Carver, Aaric Kendall, along with other skilled artists.Â
"It's an artwork that evolves throughout the day," said Kendall. "Come early, check them out, get some nice photos, go to the community building and get yourself something to eat. Then go back out and check them out."Â
Kendall told WAND News his children, Wyatt and Sydney, will do a demonstration at 1:00 PM. Â
In addition to the ice displays, IceFest offers a variety of activities for all ages, including games for children and a 50/50 raffle. Food vendors will be on-site.
This year organizers added a non-ice skating rink.Â
"We are hoping that it attracts a lot of families to have a good time and then contribute to the community," said Mayor Cindy Luedke.Â
Organized by Argenta In Motion (A.I.M.), a community-supported initiative founded in 2015. The festival aims to foster community spirit and support local projects. Proceeds from the event will benefit various community initiatives.
