AURORA, Ill. (WAND) — The Aurora Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for a Skokie man in connection to the rash of bomb threats called in to Chicago-area public libraries last month.

During the investigation, Aurora Police Detectives, in cooperation with North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF), determined Jacob Spiro, 23, of Skokie, Illinois was responsible for making threats against Aurora Public Library District buildings.

On September 12th and 14th, 2023, the Aurora Public Library District buildings at 101 S. River Street, 233 S. Constitution Drive, and 555 S. Eola Road were evacuated and searched by police after the district received bomb threats. No devices were located.

The following charges were issued against Spiro for the false bomb threats: - disorderly conduct – false bomb threats (2 counts, class 3 felony).

Spiro is currently being held in the Cook County Jail on unrelated charges.

Aurora Police did not say whether Spiro is suspected in other bomb threats made against Chicago-area libraries within the same time frame including Chicago, Evanston, and Addison.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
