Carle opens Heart and Vascular Institute in Mattoon

URBANA - New guidelines designed to protect visitors from illness will be put into place at Carle Foundation Hospital, starting December 1.

Under the new guidelines, individuals visiting patients who are isolated due to having highly infectious diseases will be required to wear personal protective equipment.  Officials say the equipment, which consists of sterile gloves, gowns, and surgical masks, helps reduce the spread of diseases such as pertussis, influenza, and tuberculosis.

Visitors will be required to wear some or all of the listed personal protective equipment, depending on the type of isolation the patient is under.  Additionally, children under the age of 12 will not be permitted to visit an isolated patient, unless it is cleared in advance by Carle staff.

These new rules will also go into effect at Carle's Hoopeston facility on December 1.  For more information about Carle Foundation Hospital, click here.
