CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) — A cat is dead and a family escaped a mobile home fire in Charleston on Sunday morning.
It happened at 505 N. Division St. after a couch in the home caught on fire.
Everyone in the home got out before the fire department arrived, but multiple pets were still inside.Â
Firefighters put out the fire and searched the building. Crews rescued one dog and four kittens. One cat died. No people were injured.
CFD fire investigators say the fire was started by a child playing with a lighter near the couch.Â
