CERRO GORDO, Ill. (WAND) - Cerro Gordo schools went on soft lockdown briefly after a man was spotted walking in the area with a gun. 

The Piatt County Sheriff’s Office said that at 9:03 a.m., deputies were called to the area of 200 East South St. for a person with a gun. 
 
Deputies said they found an older person near his home in the 200 block of North Monroe Street and found a handgun on him. The man was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Cerro Gordo Junior/Senior High School administration confirmed to WAND News that all schools went under a soft lockdown at 9:15 a.m. after being told about the incident.

School administration previously told WAND News the man was arrested. The sheriff's office later clarified the man was not arrested and instead was taken to the hospital. 

The lockdown was lifted shortly before 9:30 a.m.
