CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Firefighters in Champaign saved a cat on New Year's Eve while putting out a house fire.
The Champaign Fire Department's Public Information Officer, Randy Smith, said in a news release that the crew went to a house near Winding Ln. and Fairview Dr. around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
When the crew arrived, Chief Smith said they noticed some smoke coming from the side of the house.
Everyone was out of the house except a cat.

No one was hurt, but the people living in the house were displaced.
Smith said the fire is under investigation, with the cause at this time unknown.
