URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - The Mass Transit District in Champaign unveiled their 2024 Juneteenth bus to the public.
Organizers were announced to kick-off Juneteenth celebrations while shedding light on local talent during this years Boneyard Arts Festival.
"It's not often that you get to see I like to say people that look like us on a bus bigger than life. So, we are on the outside of the bus in the most surreal, the most afro-futurist, the most imaginative, cosmic way. But then we're also on the inside of the bus giving context historically." said Artists, Kamau Grantham and Stacey Robinson.
The outside of the bus was designed by two local artists while the inside displayed historical facts about Juneteenth, and Black History in Champaign.
"Since Juneteenth became a federal holiday, it's a great time to educate the community. Educate the youth about what Juneteenth is, to bring the community all as one." said Bus Operator, Tonoa Penn.
The bus can be seen around town starting April 14th.
