Champaign police arrest 1 in November 4 shooting

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department says one man has been arrested in connection with a November 4 shooting that injured two people.

Champaign police say officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 300 block of North Third Street at about 11:38 p.m.  Upon arriving, officers say they found a home where a party had taken place, and a 17-year-old girl who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.  Officers also learned of another gunshot victim from the party, identified as a 47-year-old male, who had arrived at a local hospital by private vehicle.

Champaign Police Detectives say they reviewed evidence from the scene, and were able to identify and obtain an arrest warrant for a suspect.  Champaign police say Daytreon Pettis, 23, was arrested at a home in the 1300 block of Dublin Street at about 9:45 a.m. on December 14.

Pettis is facing preliminary charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery with a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.  Pettis remains in the Champaign County Correctional Center on $250,000 bond.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.  We will provide more information as it becomes available.
