CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) - The Charleston Fire Department said it found multiple animals inside an apartment when they were called there for a fire. 

CFD was initially called to an apartment in the 1300 block of Garfield Wednesday. Charleston Police then told firefighters the correct address was in the 1300 block of Arthur. 

Firefighters saw smoke-stained windows that were hot to the touch. The doors were locked. 

Firefighters forced their way inside and found a fire in the living room that was immediately put out. 

They found multiple animals inside the apartment. 

CFD said the fire started when a heat lamp was knocked onto combustible furniture by an animal. 

Firefighters were on scene until about 12:40 p.m. 

The Charleston Fire Department was helped by the Mattoon Fire Department, Charleston Police Department, Coles-Moultrie County 911, and Ameren CIPS.
