DECATUR – The Decatur Sister Cities Committee and the City of Decatur will meet next Monday to honor the city’s friendship with sister city Tokorozawa, Japan.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the two cities’ friendship, officials will be holding a ceremonial tree dedication on Monday, September 26 at 9 AM. It will take place in the Central Park in downtown Decatur.
The two cities officially signed their sister city agreement on May 6, 1966 after a commander at a United States military logistics center in Tokorozawa noticed significant similarities between the two cities and suggested the relationship. Over the years, there have been a number of people to people and cultural exchanges between the two communities, involving both local students and adults.
In the event of rain, the dedication will be moved to Tuesday at 9 AM.
