EDGAR COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) — One person is dead after a head-on collision in Edgar County.
According to the Illinois State Police, two vehicles were involved in the crash on IL-1 south of Chrisman. One person was declared dead at the scene and another was taken to a hospital by helicopter with life-threatening injuries.
A post from the Edgar County Coroner's Office said that 911 dispatchers were notified of the crash around 12:30 p.m.
Edgar County Sheriff’s Department, Neal EMS, Horizon Health EMS, and Chrisman Fire Department all responded to the scene.
Edgar County Coroner, Scott Barrett, pronounced James H. Lutz, 70, of rural Chrisman, Illinois, dead at the scene.
The initial evidence shows that a Ford F150 was traveling northbound when it crossed the center lane and struck the Chevy Silverado that Lutz was driving. The Silverado left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch on the west side of the highway. The driver of the F150 continued to travel north until it came to rest in the southbound lane of the highway. The driver of the F150 was airlifted to Carle Hospital where they're listed in serious condition.
The accident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police, Edgar County Sheriff’s department, and the Edgar County Coroner.
