DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur Fire Department was called out for a fire at Greenwood Manor Apartments Wednesday.Â
According to the department, no one was injured but families were displaced from two of the apartment units.
Crews arrived to the scene around 10:50 a.m. and encountered heavy fire and smoke showing from the second story of the five story building.

Firefighters evacuated the building and searched for victims while the fire attack crew worked on extinguishing the flames.
The fire originated in the bedroom of a second floor apartment. The family who was in the apartment was able to escape and call 911.
The building was ventilated and air quality confirmed to be safe after two hours, and occupants were allowed to return to their apartments. The fire is under investigation with the Office of the State Fire Marshall and assisted by DFD Battalion Chief Neil Elder. Red Cross responded to provide assistance to families that were displaced from two apartments.

A GoFundMe has been organized for a family affected by the fire. According to the organizer, a single mother and her four young children lost all their possessions in the fire.
