SPRINGFIELD – In May 2007, Alfred Dixon was found shot at the intersection of 5th and South Grand Avenue. Now, authorities are reaching out to the public to help solve this cold case.
Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard Counties is offering $5,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for the shooting and death of Dixon.
On May 22 back in 2007 at around 3:48 AM, emergency personnel were dispatched for a report of a black man lying in the roadway at the intersection of 5th and Grand. The victim, later identified as 59-year-old Dixon, was bleeding and not breathing. Multiple motorists stopped to give him chest compressions, and personnel continued to perform lifesaving efforts as he was being taken to the hospital.
Dixon was taken to St. John’s Hospital, where doctors discovered he had been shot twice and put him on life support.
Four days later, Dixon died from his injuries.
According to interviews from the investigation, Dixon was a well-known employee at the McDonalds on South Grand Avenue. At the time he was found, Dixon was wearing his work uniform, and it authorities confirmed he had been on his way to work that morning.
To this date, investigators say no suspects have been identified, although it is believed that someone in the community might have information which could lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrator.
Alfred Dixon’s case is only one of the “cold case” homicides Crime Stoppers is hoping to get information on to assist investigators in solving cases and making arrests. Crime Stoppers is offering a higher award of $5,000 for help with these cases until September 30, 2016.
