BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WAND) - Bloomington police said they shot and killed an armed suspect Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Bloomington Police Department, officers were called to the 700 block of Fairmont Drive around 4:45 p.m., after several witnesses reported seeing someone armed with a weapon.Â
Officers made contact with the armed suspect when they arrived. Police did not provide details about the type of weapon.
Police said as the situation "progressed" that officers fired their weapons and shot the suspect. A statement by the department didn't elaborate about what caused the situation to escalate.
Police said the person died at the scene.
No officers were hurt.
Illinois State Police has taken over the investigation.Â
