CHATHAM, Ill. (WAND) - Everyone living inside a apartment complex in Chatham escapes a fire.
The Chatham Fire Department said firefighters responded to a structure fire just before noon on Saturday in the 600 block of Williamson Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, they found a multi-family residential unit with heavy smoke showing from the second story of one unit. Chatham firefighters immediately started battling the flames and had it under control around within 15 minutes after arrival.
The fire was contained to the unit of origin with smoke and water damage on the first floor and second floor.
Everyone inside made it out

Chatham firefighters were assisted by mutual aid by the Auburn Fire Department, the Chatham Police Department, and the Sangamon County Sherriff's Department.
The fire remains under investigation at this time.
