Police arrest - handcuffs (C)

RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) - A Decatur man was arrested in connection with an aggravated assault in Rantoul.

On May 11 at 2:45 p.m. Rantoul police were in the 1200 block of Falcon Dr. trying to find the suspect of an aggravated assault from the previous night.

Officers saw a person they knew to be 30-year-old Troy Stewart of Decatur holding a gun as he stood outside an apartment. Rantoul PD said Steward was on parole and is not legally able to have a firearm.

They said Stewart went into an apartment as officers approached but came out later and was detained along with other people who were inside the apartment.

A search warrant was executed on the apartment. Officers said a gun matching the one Stewart had been holding was found inside. The gun also matched the description of one used in the aggravated assault on May 10.

Stewart was arrested on charges of Aggravated Assault and Unlawful Use of a Weapon and was taken to the Champaign County Correctional Center.
