SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Illinois State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday evening in Springfield.
Ilinois State police said, Springfield Police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop after 5 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of Neil Road as part of an ongoing investigation. During the stop, four people exited the vehicle, each reportedly armed with firearms.
Police said shots were fired during the encounter, and one subject was hit. Officers immediately provided first aid and requested emergency medical services. The injured person was taken to a local hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition.
No officers were injured. Several firearms were recovered at the scene.
At the request of the Springfield Police Department, the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone has taken over the investigation.
Once the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
